Wetlands ClimateWatch Walk - record the change

Join guides from the Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary and contribute to a global citizen science project to track key plants and animals.

Within this wetland, life thrives in land on the edge of the sea, flooded by freshwater and salty tides. Volunteer guides will help you to explore the varied ecosystems of the sanctuary: wet and dry eucalypt forests, rainforest, melaleuca forest, casuarina woodland, salt marsh and mangroves. Spot the many birds, crabs, giant ferns and other life that makes the wetlands their home. 

The Sanctuary is the site of a ClimateWatch trail. ClimateWatch is a citizen science project that aims to record how changes in temperature and rainfall are affecting the seasonal behaviour of Australia's plants and animals. The guides will assist you to identify indicator species and to use the ClimateWatch App so you can contribute to this important project.

Internet connection at the Wetland Sanctuary is poor so be sure to download the free app prior to arrival. (See download instructions below.) If you would like assistance to download the app, please arrive at 8.30am. 

The walk will take place along the 900m boardwalk that stretches between the Environmental Education Centre and the pontoon on the Maroochy River. The boardwalk is pram and wheelchair friendly. Meet at the rotunda at the start of the walking trail. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen and insect repellant . A water bottle is recommended. Walk numbers are limited (15 people only), bookings essential.
