Thoughtful gifts

  1. Get crafty, create your own masterpiece using a plain white mug and ceramic paint pens. Get the kids involved and make her a set she'll treasure. Grab a set for inspiration or re-purpose a unique piece that you find in a charity shop.
  2. Most of us have jewellery we've been gifted over time that we don't or can't wear or that has broken. Keep the memories alive by re-purposing it into a new piece she'll love at your local jeweller.\
  3. Provide her with an IOU book of tasks, favours or experiences that she can call on when she needs a hand or some company.
  4. If she loves flowers, combine them into your card. Create paper pulp with a few simple ingredients, sprinkle on some seeds and let it dry. She can plant the card in the garden when she's done and voila, it'll be the gift that keeps giving.
  5. Does mum has an old photo she loves but could do with some TLC? Scan it and retouch in a digital editing program like Canva, then find, make or upcycle a frame to show it off. You can digitise your old photos, slides, videos and tech at Council's library preservation stations
  6. Snap! Would she love a family photoshoot? You can, but you don't need to call in the professionals. Most people with a decent phone are already half way there.
Choose a colour theme, pass that info onto her nearest and dearest, find a location, then choose early morning or dusk. A couple of props and you're away. Set up a tripod and keep going to you snap one she'll love. Frame it and she'll be over the moon. Check out these top tips for grabbing the perfect family portrait.
  7. Grab a plant or bouquet from one of the region's local growers. We covered them in our Valentine's Day article Check it out for local blooms that'll last. https://www.livingsmartqld.com.au/resources/get-fresh-this-valentine-s-day

Experiences to make memories

Keep it simple

Channel your inner chef and cook for her. Choose her favourite recipe and source all the ingredients from local growers. Better still take mum along to one fo the farmer's markets or local producers, then whip up your own producer to plate experience.

Slow and peaceful

Bankfoot House Grounds

Start off at the Glass House Mountains lookout before heading to Bankfoot House Heritage Precinct. Free to enter and open 10am-2pm, the precict offers an experience for all. Take a tour of the old house set in beautiful grounds with stunning views of Mount Tibrogargan. Pack a picnic and maybe enjoy one of the big wooden games available.

A little more active

People in canoes paddling

If you'd prefer a bit of activity or have mixed ages, enjoy a scenic walk around Maroochy bushland Botanic Gardens. It's the perfect place for little ones to let off steam. Take the picnic hamper, blanket, even a game to play and you'll have a day everyone will enjoy.

Adventurer

If mum fancies something more adventurous, visit adventure.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au and choose your next adventure. Find walking, paddling and cycling adventures for all skill levels, right across the region. Head off in the morning then find a spot for lunch.
